I have been a regular fixture at The Fitness Lab for over a year now, and I always look forward to the workouts, no matter how tired or crabby I am at the end of the day.
What I like about The Fitness Lab: I like it that the workouts are always varied, intense and yet doable, and I can see my improvement from session to session. I like it that we work hard and have fun; I like the coaches and the other students.
Classes average about 8-16 students and typically include work with weights, TRX, medicine balls, dumb bells, squats of all kinds, stretching and aerobic exercises. Great opportunity to build core, upper body, and leg strength, as well as flexibility and endurance. Make no mistake about it, these are challenging workouts, but suitable for almost all levels.
I started classes last spring because I did not feel I was getting enough of a workout through Pilates and walking 5 miles a day, even though that seemed like a lot at the time. My old arthritic knees were always sore; I had lost a lot of my strength and flexibility with age, and was not happy enough with my appearance.
My friend, Pam and I, started coming at the same time, and we immediately recognized TFL was a good place for us: not super competitive with other students, good options for modifications, and yet a good place to push. Our husbands started joining us, and now my husband comes with me regularly, as we both benefit from the workouts.
Since starting, I have lost 20+ pounds, greatly improved my muscle mass to body fat ratio, my knees are rarely sore, I have muscles I never had, and feel generally good and energetic all the time. I feel a real sense of accomplishment, and am really proud of myself for doing this good work.
Dillon is a great coach, and she runs a great studio. Despite her serious photo, she is very funny, encouraging and really skilled at taking folks where they are and building from there. She also provides nutrition support, which really helped me take off those last few stubborn pounds. All our coaches have been great.
I highly recommend The Fitness Lab for anyone who wants to get in shape, and like me, needs the group experience to cement the commitment.
