“The Fitness Lab is a guaranteed mood enhancer. This is how I get myself out of bed at 5:30am; I tell myself, ‘You’re 30 minutes away from being in a good mood.'”
Q&A with Betsy
Can you tell me 3 or 4 of your favorite things to do?
- I love to travel, but my great joy is the adventure of relocating to a new city simply for the new experience. Seattle is my 6th city, and I love the subtle cultural differences, the varying climates, the new communities and friends we make, and the knowledge that we can come back “home” to any of these places any time. Seattle is pretty special to me and my husband since we had our son here and I think we’ll stay awhile.
- My kitchen, any Sunday afternoon, cooking all my meals for the week with a glass of wine in my hand is my happy place.
- Getting to know my 17-month old as he grows and communicates more is pretty much the best thing ever.
- Sweating.
Where is your favorite place to eat?
My dining room table surrounded by family and friends. But if I could transport myself across the country there’s a tiny speakeasy-esque restaurant in Brooklyn called Moto that’s pretty special to me.
Do you remember when you started our classes and why?
I did a 200-mile relay race over the summer and realized just how sad the state of my fitness level had become, so I started thinking about how I could re-light the fire. I started at TFL about 7 weeks ago because my friend and colleague Christen Gladu convinced me to do the 21-day challenge with her. I am ready to get serious about racing again after taking 2 years off to have a baby.
What are some health and fitness goals you have achieved since being here?
I feel like a super-strong badass who could lift a car off someone or bounce a baby to sleep for 500 repetitions if necessary. Only one has come true so far.
What is a quote that you live by?
At the risk of copyright infringement, “It’s always sunny at The Fitness Lab.”
