Eight is Great!
Well, I’ve made it just over a whole week on this Shakeology challenge and it’s been easier than I thought it would be – what a pleasant surprise!
The easiest part by far is the Shakeology – I love my Greenberry and having a smoothie for a meal is so easy, I know I’ll continue to do it once the challenge is over. Planning and cooking meals takes the most work, but with the meal plan provided I’ve done pretty well. I’ve swapped a few recipes for things that work better for my life or for personal preference, and that’s made a world of difference. Making a program work *with* my schedule is the only way to get through it. For example, Wednesday nights my husband and I work out together, so I almost always make a crock pot meal that is ready when we walk in the door. I picked a healthy, veggie-filled soup and used that instead of the provided recipe because I knew cooking a full meal after walking in the door at 8pm tired and sweaty was not going to happen.
I’ve also started making actual breakfasts instead of just oatmeal or fruit, and I’m amazed at how that carries me through the day. Plus, it’s always much easier than I think it will be – it takes one minute to scramble an egg. My current favorite is spinach, salsa, one egg and one egg white. Delicious!
I’ve made it through the weekend which was (and always is) the hardest for me. Thankfully, this weekend wasn’t too packed with social obligations, though we did have a small Cinco de Mayo dinner to attend on Saturday. I made wise food choices (fajita chicken, veggies, ZERO margaritas) and while I know I would’ve eaten a bit better at home, I stuck to my plan. Sunday we had a BBQ at our house, and while my husband and friends at tacos, I made a modified version of the Taco Salad in the 10 day challenge recipes and was fully satisfied!
So far, this challenge has given me some great tools, made me feel good about what I’m putting in my body, and helped me to start of a summer of healthy eating without a lot of headaches and overthinking. The next two days will be tougher than the last as my parents are coming into town, but I can’t wait to get my results, so I’m keeping my eye on the prize!
