Do you ever think to yourself, “How can I be better?” Have you thought, “I am living my life this way but how can I make it better?” Have you thought that you aren’t living up to your potential? Have asked yourself these types of questions:
How can I be a better partner?
How can I be a better coach?
How can I be a better friend?
How can I be a better employee or business owner?
How can I be a better friend?
How can I be a better parent, sibling, aunt, uncle?
When I think about how to be a better person I turn inward and take a mental inventory about what I need to do for myself first. It all starts here – inside. I have to feel mentally and physically “good” before I can be better.
In order to feel your best you can always work on doing these 5 things:
1. Surround yourself with people that are better for you.
Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” And he is right. I spend my time with vibrant, positive, smart and amazing people. I would rather spend an evening alone than with an energy vampire.”
2. Don’t dwell on past mistakes.
Would’ve, should’ve, could’ve. Those words will eat you alive. Learn from the mistake, make it right – especially if anyone was affected, and move on. When you are stuck in the past it’s much more difficult to move forward.
3. Always learn and try new things.
When I first started training people I read every book I could on fitness and nutrition. I went to conferences, watched videos and poked around on the internet for ideas and inspiration. Now, I read business books and listen to personal growth audios. I once thought I could go-it-alone, solve any problem, climb any mountain – yada yada. The truth is – it gets lonely when you do it by yourself. Life is easier when you surround yourself with people who care about you and your success. Learn from others, it’s more fulfilling and takes less time.
4. Eating healthy is key to feeling great.
Buy clean, healthy food and cook at home. Everything you put into your body has an effect – good or bad. How do you feel when you eat veggies, fruits and unprocessed foods? How do you feel after you eat pizza, drink beer or soda, snack on chips, cookies and baked goods? The cleaner you eat – the better you will feel. At the beginning of the year, I did a 21 day cleanse to reset my system. Wow – did I ever feel better. I had energy, amazing nights of sleep, and I felt so good about myself. Food is amazing and can do as much good as harm so choose what you put in your mouth wisely.
5. Exercise consistently.
Exercise gives you a great mental break from the day, it eases your stress and you will feel really good about getting that amazing workout in. It will lighten your life and you will feel better when you feel strong. If you can’t motivate yourself, find a challenge or create a goal that will motivate you. Working out with other people is a great motivator for and it’s much more fun.
In fact, you know that when you let one of these things go – life is not as good and you are not a better person. Do these things day in and day out to be a better person, a better partner, friend, business owner, employee, aunt or uncle, parent or step-parent or whatever it is that you want to be better at.
Life is short. Make yours better everyday and remember practice makes perfect.
