Q/A with Kimberly
Can you tell me 3 or 4 of your favorite things to do?
Travel, art, reading, urban hikes and food! I love to travel (typically with my husband and/or mother) and have been to over 50 countries with lots of places still on my list. I exercise my creative muscles with doing printmaking, cold wax painting and collage, as well as, attending theater, dance and visual art shows. This year I celebrated my 60th birthday in Guanajuato Mexico doing printmaking for a week with my mother and a good friend. Reading is another favorite activity. I’ve been in a variety of book clubs for over 35 years. In addition to TFL classes, I enjoy urban hikes and pilates. Lastly, I love to cook, experimenting with new recipes, and taking cooking classes.
My favorite place to eat:
There are so many good restaurants in Seattle. Sticking with my neighborhood of Fremont/Wallingford, my favorites include Manolin, Art of the Table, Rockcreek, Joule, Chiso, Kozue and Serafina. I go to Wild Salmon fish market at Chinook’s to get seafood for cooking at home.
Do you remember when you started our classes and why?
I was recovering from a fractured shoulder after a serious fall in Costa Rica. I was ready to progress from physical therapy but felt weak and out of shape. I joined TFL after looking for a neighborhood gym that afforded me flexibility with my work/travel schedule. I appreciated the casual vibe of the gym combined with a serious focus on fitness for all ages. The trainers are great!
What are some health and fitness goals you have achieved since being here?
I feel more energetic, less stiff and stronger. Last week I traveled for work to upstate NY. I needed to take a 9 seater plane to my destination. When I returned to the bigger airport I needed to carry my suitcase and heavy briefcase up 3 flights of stairs. I was pleased at my ability to easily carry my bags quickly up the stairs. Thanks for those farmer walk and box step up exercises Dillon:)
What is a quote that you live by?
There are many. But here’s one by author Anne Lamott that inspires me – “Don’t look at your feet to see if you are doing it right. Just dance.”
Anything else you’d like to say about your experience at the Fitness Lab?
I really appreciate the welcoming and supportive environment that Dillon and her team provide. I enjoy the camaraderie of seeing other members and giving/getting a “high 5” for a good workout. The trainers have each individual’s best interest in mind and work towards consistent progress. They teach proper lifting form and technique and individualize the workouts as needed. And, the easy parking is a plus!
